Eight partners from Spain, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, 30 months, two industrial pilots. What the EU-funded project will test and what it means for our roadmap.
Textiles are one of the most resource-intensive sectors in Europe. The EU generates 6.9 million tonnes of textile waste every year, and only 12 percent is separately collected for reuse or recycling.
LIFE DPP-Tex tackles this gap by adapting Digital Product Passport technology to give manufacturers, recyclers and public buyers a reliable way to track fibre origin, composition, recycled content and end-of-life pathways for every product. Co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union, the project brings together eight partners from three countries over 30 months (2026 to 2028).
The DPP solution is tested in two real industrial pilots: closed-loop recycling of home textiles in Bulgaria, and reuse, upcycling and recycling of discarded municipal workwear in Spain. Together the pilots aim to process around 27 tonnes of textile waste and generate close to 60,000 circular products.
bAwear contributes the environmental impact layer: connecting traceable supply chain data to product-level impact results so that the passport carries credible, methodology-backed environmental data. Beyond the pilots, the project is designed to help the sector prepare for the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and the revised Waste Framework Directive.
