Development and validation of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for the textile sector, enabling the traceability of product origin, composition, recycled content and end-of-life.
An overview of the LIFE DPP-TEX project: its programme, coordinating partner,
consortium members and timeline.

The other members of the consortium are: Eurotex Ltd (TexCycle) (Bulgaria), EcoIntelligent Growth (Spain), Terraqui (Spain), Kalinel EOOD (Bulgaria), Alsico Iberia (Spain), Tèxtils.CAT (Spain) and bAwear BV (Netherlands).
July 2026 to December 2028
Textiles are one of the most resource-intensive sectors in Europe: the EU generates 6.9 million tonnes of textile waste every year, and only 12% of it is separately collected for reuse or recycling.
LIFE DPP-TEX tackles this gap by adapting Digital Product Passport (DPP) technology (building on BLUEROOM’s CircularPass platform) to give manufacturers, recyclers and public buyers a reliable way to track fibre origin, composition, recycled content and end-of-life pathways for every product.
Co-funded by the LIFE Programme of the European Union, the project brings together 8 partners from 3 countries (Spain, Bulgaria and the Netherlands) over 30 months (2026–2028). Its DPP solution is tested in two real industrial pilots: closed-loop recycling of home textiles in Bulgaria and reuse, upcycling and recycling of discarded municipal workwear in Spain. Together, the two pilots aim to process around 27 tonnes of textile waste, generate close to 60,000 circular products, create 10 new jobs, and save an estimated 110 tonnes of CO₂, 6.3 million litres of water and 1.9 million MJ of energy.
Beyond the pilots, LIFE DPP-TEX is designed to help the sector prepare for upcoming EU rules (the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the Waste Framework Directive), and to turn its results into viable business models for industry adoption, making its tools and lessons learned available for replication in other regions and other textile-related sectors.
LIFE DPP-TEX pursues four concrete objectives, spanning technology development, real-world validation, environmental impact measurement and regulatory readiness.
Adapt and demonstrate a Digital Product Passport for the textile sector, building on BLUEROOM’s existing CircularPass platform.
Test the DPP in two real industrial pilots: closed-loop textile recycling in Bulgaria and workwear reuse/upcycling in Spain, covering different value chains and business models.
Track fibre origin, composition, recycled content and end-of-life pathway for every product processed in the pilots.
Quantify the environmental benefits of circular textile practices (CO₂, water and energy savings) through integrated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data.
Support compliance with the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the Waste Framework Directive, helping the sector prepare ahead of mandatory requirements.
Turn pilot results into viable business models for industry adoption and enable replication of the DPP solution to other regions and other textile-related sectors, supported by an After-LIFE Plan and transferability roadmap.
Co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or CINEA. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
EU research we contributed to before LIFE DPP-Tex. The insights feed directly into how bAwear Score works today.
Product data traceability and sustainability in textiles and fashion. TRICK developed a blockchain-based platform that lets textile SMEs collect, certify and share product data across the supply chain, including environmental impact.
bAwear contributed the environmental impact assessment methodology, connecting traceable supply chain data to product-level LCA results.
